MEET ISAAC:
Isaac was born with normal hearing. He’s full of joy, laughter, energy and love. However, Isaac had a progressive permanent hearing loss. And he started wearing hearing aids at 19 months old and continued to wear it for 9 months. He wore a hat to help him keep the hearing aids in place. Through lots of Auditory- Verbal Therapy (AVT). He developed some speech but his hearing aids did not give him full access to sound. So with the help of Hospital for Sick Kids, he was a candidate for Cochlear Implants. At 28 months old, he said goodbye to hearing aids and went through 5 hours of surgery for the implants. After surgery, he had to wait 4 weeks for “Activation”. He started to hear sounds like never before.
“We had no idea what to expect after this day but we know it will take time to catch up. In the meantime, life goes on. And more therapy, but from now on, he is hearing everything. Stay strong Isaac!
